About the Job

The Electrical Estimator has a key role in the Pre-construction department and is responsible for assessing each assigned project to determine the true cost of the project and to provide a plan on how we will build the project. The Estimator is responsible for developing and completing project specific estimates as well as early project viability assessments to clients' bid type requests. The Estimator is involved with overall cost analysis, pre-project and post-project reviews. Benchmark uses Accubid Pro as our estimating software.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Manages all pre-construction related correspondence associated with assigned projects
  • Ensures the flow of pre-construction information is maintained and documented.
  • Communicates and stays abreast of the latest information affecting all aspects of cost used to prepare estimates and correspondence.
  • Builds effective relationships with customers, design team, specialty contractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support the company.
  • Actively participates in industry, client and community relations to enhance company image.
  • Actively build subcontractor/supplier database and relationships to ensure key partnerships are maintained.
  • Perform turnkey estimating duties from project introduction to beginning of construction including the following:
  • Organize/update/submit pre-qualification data
  • Create/maintain organized estimate files
  • Establish complete understanding of project scope of work related to request for proposal
  • List comprehensive estimate with detailed line items appropriate for the scope of work of each project.
  • Solicit accurate pricing from subcontractors/vendors/suppliers to ensure adequate coverage of each estimate line item.
  • Organize project site visits if necessary to define scope and familiarity with the project
  • Define/confirm scope of work for each subcontractor/vendor/supplier and produce written scope sheet certified by same if other documentation of scope is not completely clear.
  • Submit proposal in professional manner and in time frame and format required. Include scope of work clarifications document to clarify any relevant information not clarified in the bid documents.
  • Possess strong mathematical and computer skills. Proficiency with all MS office products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to break down construction operations into a logical sequence of activities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and fit in with company culture and processes
  • Ability to professionally operate in a fast-paced environment maintained by a company in a positive, controlled growth mode.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and put in the time needed to get the job done.
  • Effective professional oral and written communication skills
  • Must possess a strong work ethic and values 
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal skills
  • Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.

Qualifications

  • High School Degree or equivalent,
  • Degree in construction management, materials management or industrial engineering preferred
  • 2 years estimating experience or 4 years hands-on electrical field experience
  • Experience in Oil/Gas Industry, Commercial and other Industrial Construction verticals
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Excellent understanding of the principles of estimating
  • Ability to read schematics/drawings/plans
  • Excellent communication and computer skills
  • Willing to work OT as required by project deadlines
